On 2 October, the state of Utah is encouraging everyone to participate in a Read-a-thon. As an English teacher, young adult author, and--well, frankly--huge book nerd, I love this idea! (Or, as a British Lit character might say: "I am not wholly indifferent to such an endeavor.")
Therefore, I want to do my part in making this--ahem--endeavor a success. Obviously, I'll be wielding my own book and pajamas on 2 October. Also, we've already been discussing how to accomplish this Read-a-thon at the high school where I work. Beyond that, however, I wanted to promote the reading outside of the school setting and into the community and families.
To do this, I've decided that anyone who fills out this form, and snaps a photo of everyone in their household wearing pajamas while holding a print copy of a book that they presumably read or will have read on the day of the Read-a-thon, will be eligible for a drawing of a prize giveaway for the whole family. If any of my books (How to Become a Pirate Hunter and How to Become a Seer) are part of the Read-a-thon (and thus in the photo), then your family's chances at winning the prize giveaway will be doubled.
What do you need to do? Simple. For now, just get those pajamas ready, have each member in your household find a print book to read on 2 October, fill out the form so that I can send a reminder and give you a place to send your photos ... and then enjoy a cozy, lovely time reading.
